This photo was taken less than 48 hours ago of the IM-1 lunar landing carrying the 4SPACE payload in lunar orbit. It is orbiting the Moon approximately 60 miles (93 km) from the Moon's surface.

My art gallery has officially detached from the SpaceX rocket and is bound for the Moon about the IM-1 lunar lander! This marks a significant milestone in the journey to the Moon as the most challenging aspects are now complete...all being well in 8 days time we should be landing safely on the Moon. <h3>4SPACE is placing art on the Moon</h3><p>4SPACE has coordinated a world-first initiative to place art on the Moon. This signifies a major step forward for humankind as a commercial payload carrying artwork by internationally acclaimed artist Jeff Koons is bound for the Moon.</p><p>The launch is scheduled for 12:57AM on 14 February 2024 from the historic Apollo launchpad 39A at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida.</p><h3>The cube</h3><p>125 unique sculptures by Jeff Koons have been placed in a transparent cube designed and tested by 4SPACE. The cube will be fastened to a lunar lander by Intuitive Machines which will be placed inside a SpaceX rocket for an 8-day trip to the Moon which is scheduled to land on 22 February 2024.</p><p>The artwork will become permanent fixture on the Moon in its South Pole due to lunar weather conditions being more favorable.</p><h3>The artwork</h3><p>After securing the rights in 2021 to one of approximately 15 payloads on the Intuitive Machines lunar lander (the only commercial payload), 4SPACE approached renowned artist Jeff Koons in for his ideas on what to place within the cube.</p><p>A decision was reached to create 125 moons, each approximately 1-inch in diameter, representing the different phases of the Moon. Each moon would represent a person of historical significance to the advancement of Earth in art, music, travel and other cultural ways.</p><p>Each moon has a corresponding 15-inch version which will remain on Earth along with a corresponding NFT (non-fungible token) representing the artwork.</p><h3>The process</h3><p>The process of coordinating, testing, securing and getting the necessary approvals and funding to send a payload to the Moon is incredibly challenging. 4SPACE is fortunately a pioneer in helping organizations and individuals transform their products, services and brands beyond Earth, and into space.</p><p>In the Jeff Koons Moon Phases initiative the cube created by 4SPACE had to undergo a series of testing including:<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;vibration checks<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;radiation checks<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;temperature checks<br>•&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and many more…</p><p>to ensure the payload would withstand not only the 8-day journey to the Moon, but being a permanent fixture on the Moon's surface for many years to come.</p><h3>Special thanks</h3><p>My team and I are grateful for the many people, scientists, authorities and investors who assisted us along the way to ensure the cube achieved compliance with NASA's standards.</p><p>Special mention also to Jeff Koons for his inspirational ideas and collaboration, Intuitive Machines for accepting 4SPACE as a payload on IM-1, Pace Gallery for helping showcase this special achievement, and Media.com for celebrating this world-first by making me the first profile on Media.com.</p><p>I am thrilled to have an official launch date (14 February 2024 at 12:57AM ET) and are looking forward to celebrating this remarkable achievement for humankind, women, and the space industry.</p>
