Claiming a Protected Handle

Step by step: claiming a protected handle for yourself or an organization you represent.

On this page

Claiming is free with Standard Review. You can track every claim in Settings → Handles.

What to do

  1. Search for the handle at media.com/handles/protected and choose Claim this handle.
  2. Choose who the claim is for: yourself, or an organization you are authorized to represent.
  3. Complete verification through VERIFIED if you have not already. For an organization, that includes the organization and your authority to act for it.
  4. Tell us how the handle relates to you. Public links — an official website, a Wikipedia page, press coverage — help the review.
  5. Choose Standard Review (free) or Priority Review, check the summary and submit. Priority Review is paid at this step unless your Namespace Protection plan includes it.

While it is reviewed

Your claim page shows its status and the review target. If we need more information we email you and show the request on your claim page. Please respond within 7 days; we send a reminder before then. You can withdraw a claim at any time before a decision.

Limits

You can have a small number of open claims at once. Complete or withdraw one before starting another.
