Claim decisions and reconsideration

What happens when a Protected Handle claim is approved or not approved, and how to ask for reconsideration.

If your claim is approved

We email you and your claim page shows Approved. Choose Activate handle to make it your Media.com address. Each profile has one active handle, so it replaces your current address; your previous handle keeps redirecting to you for 60 days and nobody else can take it in that time.

If your claim is not approved

We tell you why. The reasons we use are:

  • We could not establish a sufficient connection between you and the handle.
  • The name is shared or ambiguous, so it cannot be allocated to a single identity.
  • Another identity has a stronger basis for the handle.
  • We could not confirm your authority to act for the organization.
  • The handle is subject to an additional policy restriction.

Asking for reconsideration

If you have new information — for example evidence of authority, or a public source that connects you to the name — contact Support with your claim reference. A reconsideration uses the same standards as the original review.
