More and more every day, the web is like a dead mall. Giant footprint, resource intensive, underutilized, sucked the capital out of our city centers, seemed like a great idea at the time. Unlike the dead mall, I actually need the web for information, social connection, income generation, safety and security systems, privileged access to my own data, and other social services that are now all inseparable from it. Quality information services are necessary for any functioning society, period. Those of us who don't exploit this environment for personal gain have spent years looking for a better way.
