How enforcement works

A report asks Media.com to review something. It does not decide the outcome, and the number of reports never does either.

1

Report or detection

Something is reported by a person, or identified by Media.com.

2

Review

It is assessed against the relevant policy, in context.

3

Decision

A decision is recorded against a specific policy.

4

Action

Any action taken reflects severity, context and history.

5

Notification

The publisher is told what was decided and why.

6

Appeal

Eligible decisions can be challenged and reversed.

Questions people ask

What is the difference between Rules of Engagement and a Policy?
Rules of Engagement explain a standard in plain English. The Policy is the detailed document Media.com applies when reviewing something. They cover the same subject and sit on the same page.
What happens after I report something?
A report asks Media.com to review something against its policies. It is not a vote, the number of reports never decides an outcome, and reports are confidential.
Why is something still available after I reported it?
Review takes context into account, and not everything reported turns out to breach a policy. Disagreeing with a publication is not by itself a violation.
How does verification relate to Trust & Safety?
Verification establishes who is behind a publication. It is not an endorsement, and it does not mean a publication has been fact-checked.
Where can I see policy changes?
Every change to a policy is dated and recorded on the policy updates page.
