Youth Safety

At Media.com, we take the safety and protection of minors very seriously. This guide outlines how we keep these users safe and what behaviors are not allowed on our platform.

Youth Safety Policy

Version: 1.0

Last updated: December 22, 2024

Commitment to User Safety

At Media.com, we are deeply committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all users, especially minors. We strictly prohibit any content or behavior that exploits or endangers young people. This includes, but is not limited to, content involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM), sexual exploitation, inappropriate conduct, or grooming of individuals under the age of 18.

Media.com uses a third-party platform to verify user identity upon registration. This requires valid photo identification. Users must be at least 16 years of age to have their verified identity approved and thus be permitted to post publicly on Media.com.

Users under 16 may access a read-only version of Media.com for research purposes, but will not be granted their own verified profiles. This prohibits access to all features that allow for content creation, including the ability to post media of any kind, or engage directly with other users using messages.

Prohibitions

Prohibitions

The following content is expressly prohibited under this policy and will result in the permanent termination of any Media.com account:

  • Engaging in inappropriate interactions with minors, such as grooming, sharing explicit content, or initiating sexual conversations through private messages. In this case, content includes photos of real individuals, illustrations, animation, or text.
  • Coercing minors to provide intimate images, favors, or personal information through threats or manipulation.
  • Displaying or distributing nude or sexually explicit images involving minors.
  • Promoting, encouraging, or facilitating the sexual exploitation or objectification of minors.
  • Sharing links to third-party websites that host or promote content in violation of this policy.
  • Impersonating or posing as a minor.
  • Revealing or publicizing the identity of alleged victims of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) by sharing their names, images, or personal details.

Flagging

Violations of this policy can be flagged by anyone, including those without a Media.com account, via our flagging tool.

Enforcement

The Media.com platform uses a combination of automated tools and human moderators to identify and remove accounts that may be high-risk. Violations may come to our attention through the following methods:

User Reports: Users can report inappropriate profiles directly through the platform using the “Report” button available on each post or user profile page.

Regulatory Reports: We receive reports from government agencies that help us identify non-compliant accounts.

Automated Systems: Our automated systems continuously scan user-generated content for potential violations. When identified, content may be flagged for further review or automatically removed.

Internal Review: Our team of internal moderators regularly reviews the platform to proactively detect and address violating accounts.

Law Enforcement

Media.com works closely with law enforcement and online safety organizations to address and prevent risks associated with youth safety. Our aim is to foster a safe and harmonious online environment where users can engage freely without the fear of potential harm.

If Media.com, in its sole discretion, considers content posted to be in violation of any laws, we will share information relating to the offending content with relevant law enforcement agencies in line with our Law Enforcement Liaison Procedure.
