Content Creation Standards

At Media.com, we’re committed to creating a space that’s positive, respectful, and informative for everyone. These guidelines will help you understand how to contribute to our community while ensuring the integrity of discussions and respect for others.

Content Creation Standards Rules of Engagement

Key Principles

1. Be Unemotive: We approach discussions calmly and neutrally. Focusing on facts rather than emotions contributes to a rational discourse that resolves differences and fosters mutual understanding.

2. Limit Profanity: Our commitment to professionalism and respect extends to language. We ask that responses to claims or allegations remain free from profanity, ensuring that all members feel welcomed and valued in every interaction.

3. Focus on the Issue, Not the Person: At Media.com, we believe in critiquing ideas, not individuals. This principle is essential to maintain a space where users feel safe to express their thoughts without fear of personal attacks. Critique constructively and focus on issues to foster an environment of growth and learning.

Creating and Sharing Content

Be Authentic: Share information that’s real, true, and based on verified facts. Your contributions help build trust within our community.

Champion Accuracy: It’s important to share truthful, reliable information, especially on serious topics. Misinformation can harm people, so make sure the news you share is fact-checked.

Promote Positive Engagement: Share content that educates, inspires, or informs. Contribute in ways that help the community grow and learn.

Profile Pictures: Your profile picture should follow our community rules. Don’t impersonate others, and ensure your profile image is appropriate for varied audiences.

Handles (Usernames): Your handle should reflect who you are. Your display name is the name you prefer to be called, and this should be based on your verified identification.

Handles may not include profanity, or reference anything illegal, offensive, or harmful (e.g., glorifying tragedies or promoting violence, self-harm, or drug abuse). Impersonating public figures via handles or usernames is not permitted.

Illegal Content: Profiles dedicated to the delivery or downloading of illegal content, backlinking, SEO gaming, hacking tools, or gambling are prohibited. This includes the buying and selling of controlled substances. Intellectual property violations fall into this category and will be actioned accordingly per the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). AI-Generated Content: If your content is created using Automated Intelligence (AI), we may label it to let others know. This helps keep the platform transparent and informative.

Messaging and Comment Spam: High frequency messaging may result in a limiting of posting privileges. Posts containing predatory content, such as links designed to direct users to untrustworthy off-platform domains, may be removed. High frequency messaging, in other words, spamming, may lead to suspension or a sitewide ban.

Advertising Spam: Posting content that is excessive, repetitive, or unwelcome in a way that interferes with others' interactions is not allowed. Using a Media.com profile solely as a landing page for a business or service may result in a removal of content without notice, and in the case of repeat violations, a user ban.

Sensitive Content

At Media.com, safety is our top priority. We want everyone to express themselves while keeping the platform respectful and professional. Here’s what to avoid:

Graphic Violence or Gore: Content focused on extreme violence or injury isn’t allowed, except in specific journalistic contexts (e.g., reporting on war).

Death or Harm: Specific threats of harm or calls to violence against specific individuals or groups are not tolerated.

Sexually Explicit Material or Pornographic Links: Sharing pornographic material (visual depictions of sex acts) or links to pornographic material is strictly prohibited.

Reporting and Enforcement

Our community helps us keep Media.com safe. If you see something that goes against these guidelines, please report it. Here’s how we handle violations upon receiving community reports:

1. Content Removal or Modification: If we investigate a report and find that the reported post doesn’t meet our standards, we may remove or modify it. Modification might include an interstitial warning label if flagged by our fact-checking partners.

2. Communication: The user  of the removed or modified content will be informed of which policy or guideline their content was in violation, as well as the action taken by Media.com.

3. Account Actions: Repeat violations can lead to temporary profile suspension or in extreme cases, an account ban.

In some cases, the Content Moderation team may limit the visibility of content that meets guidelines, yet is considered low quality, without the presence of a user report.
