Purpose and Commitment
Media.com is dedicated to ensuring accurate and responsible information dissemination, especially during times of crisis. This policy aims to mitigate the spread of false or misleading information that could harm crisis-affected populations.
Scope of the Policy
This policy applies to all content shared on Media.com, particularly during international armed conflicts, public health emergencies, natural disasters, or other crisis situations posing widespread threats to life, safety, health, or basic subsistence.
Prohibited Content
- False Reporting in Crisis Situations: Content that inaccurately reports events or conditions in crisis situations, potentially misleading users or exacerbating the crisis.
- Misleading Allegations: Fabricated or deceptive claims about the use of force, territorial incursions, war crimes, or mass atrocities against specific populations or groups.
- Disinformation on Humanitarian Efforts: False information regarding the response of the international community, including misinformation about sanctions, defensive actions, and humanitarian operations.
- Harmful Crisis Narratives: Content likely to trigger forced displacement, increase humanitarian needs, or hinder the ability of relief organizations to assist affected populations.
- Targeting Vulnerable Groups: Content that incites targeting or surveillance of groups based on political, religious, ethnic, racial, or ideological affiliations.
Allowable Content
- Commentary and Satire: Strong opinions, commentary, or satire that do not contain false or misleading factual assertions.
- Information Seeking: Legitimate inquiries about crisis events, unless part of a pattern of harmful behavior.
- Fact-Checking and Debunking: Content that calls attention to false or misleading claims to refute them.
- News Reporting: Fact-based descriptions of newsworthy events may contain misleading information as part of reporting, unless part of a pattern of spreading crisis misinformation.
- Personal Anecdotes: First-person accounts of specific events or incidents that are unverifiable, subject to other community standards.
Enforcement Measures
- Account Eligibility: Limiting impressions on content violating this policy, with a focus on high-profile accounts and content with significant reach.
- Warning Notices: Placing violative content behind an interstitial with information about the policy violation. Repeat violations may lead to temporary account restrictions, up to and including banishment from the platform.
Appeals Process
Users who believe their content was incorrectly actioned can submit an appeal for review.
